Abstract

Today's global warming has become a very common thing that is felt by all people on this earth, one of the factors increasing global warming is from the waste sector. Garbage activities such as burning and open dumping are one of the factors for increasing GHG. Emission level estimation was carried out in 4 waste management scenarios in Musi Rawas Regency, namely: (a) BAU scenario with reference to waste data for 2020, (b) Scenario -1: realistic increase in the number of trucks transporting waste to the landfill, (c) Scenario -2: optimizing the 3R activities of waste in the landfill, namely: (1) food waste and parks are used for composting, (2) paper+plastic+glass+metal waste is used for recycling and (3) the remainder is buried in the landfill, (d) Scenario -3: All waste goes to the landfill. The GHG calculation methodology from the IPCC 2006 Guideline, in the Emission Quantification Tool developed by IGES, is used to estimate GHG emissions from collection, composting, recycle, landfill, and uncollected waste. Scenarios are modeled for 2026. Based on GHG emission levels, Scenario -2 is waste management with the lowest emission of 298,043 tonnes CO2e/ton waste. Whereas, scenario -3 is waste management with the highest emission of 220,983 tons of CO2e/ton of waste. Utilization of 3R is the key to the success of GHG reduction actions in the waste sector.
