Abstract

Introduction: Until now, preterm labor remains a national problem due to the quite high incidence above 10%. Preterm labor is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and high rates of infant morbidity. This research is done to identify the incidence and factors of preterm labor in the Department of Obstetric and Gynecology dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang on January 2012-December 2012. Method: This is an observational-descriptive with cross-sectional approach. The population is mothers who labor in department of obstetric and gynecology RSMH Palembang on January 2012-December 2012, and the sampel is population with preterm labor. The research using secondary data obtained ffom medical records. The data is processed and then classified according to the variables presented in the form of frequency distribution table and percentage. Result: During the period of the study, there are 390 mothers (14,2%) with preterm labor from 2.743 labors. There are 36.8% mothers group aged <20 years, 41.1% mothers group aged >35 years, 34.9% of the group of mothers multigravida, 55.7% grandemultigravida, 46.8% multiple pregnancy, history 1 time abortion 28.9%, miscarriage >1 times 31.5%, 56.3% KPD, 37.9% preeclampsia, 41.2% of cervical incompetence, 23.4% antepartum haemorrhage, and 33.3% of uterine abnormalities as risk factors of preterm labor. Conclusion: Without involving the factors of maternal age and gravida, the overall risk factors of preterm labor with the highest percentage is the KPD (39.1%), followed by the condition of preeclampsia (27.4%), antepartum haemorrhage (19.2%), history of abortion (6.3%), both of which experienced abortion first time and that >1 times abortion, multiple pregnancy further (5.9%), cervical incompetence (1.2%), and uterine abnormalities (0.9% ).
