Abstract

Background: Congestive heart failure is a clinical syndrome where the heart is unable to pump blood to fulfil the need for tissue metabolism. CHF has a very high prevalence worldwide. Hence, this situation is still not specified that “what are the risk factors from this condition to“. Therefore, related to this it was needed for us to do further research upon the risk factor of congestive heart failure. Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the risk factors of congestive heart failure among patients hospitalized in the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular of General Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, Palembang in 2010-2012. Method: A descriptive serial case study has been done in October 2013-December 2013 at the Medical Records Section of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular of General Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, Palembang. Sample were 95 CHF patients who fulfilied the inclusion criteria by using random sampling from the total of 1909 hospitalized patients. Data was processed and grouped according to the variable and then presented in the form of pie chart and ffequency distribution table by using spss version 21.0 Result: The study showed that CHF patients the most are from the age group of >60 with (54,5%). Male patients (69,1%), smokers, hypertension, diabetes and obesity with the sum of, (16%), (35.1%), (11,7%), and (11,7%). History of family disease with the number of (12,8%) and mostly consists of hypertension. At the highest, history of comorbid disease with the number of (67%) and its underlying causes is hypertensive heart disease. (40,4%) of patients experienced dyslipidemia. Conclusion: The risk factors owned by CHF patients in the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Hospital Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, Palembang is hypertension heart disease (67%), age >60 (54,5%), and dyslipidemia (40,4%).
