Abstract

This research entitled "Representation of female beauty on the Korean drama titled "True Beauty" (semiotics analysis of Roland Barthers). The research based on the phenomenon of Korean wave such as drama, which is one of the cultural products that produced to entertain the public. Korean dramas have identical characteristics that showed beautiful and attractive people, and today we know that "beautifulness" being a specific standard that must be owned, especially in Korea which is considered the world's beauty orientation. This study aims to uncover the representation of Korean beauty on the drama True Beauty. The analysis using semiotics thory from Roland Barthes which has 3 dimensions, namely denotation, connotation and myth. The data of the research was obtained from watching the drama True Beauty on the online platform and then analyzed based on the theory used. The results showed that in the drama True Beauty, the beauty standards of South Korean depicted are still unchanged, namely a smooth face , with no acne, double eyelids, high nose, V line face shape, slender S line body shape, thin and tall. As we know, today, beauty can be obtained through the use of makeup, and we know that beauty can also affect a person's social life. Keywords : Representation, Beauty, Semiotics, Korean Drama
