Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a community health trouble in the world that causes high pain figure or morbidity and mortality and being a global challenge. Indonesia is a country with the 3rd highest burden of pulmonary TB in the world after India and China. One of the causes of pulmonary TB is environmental conditions and patient behavior. Pulmonary TB cases in Palembang City increased from 1,575 cases in 2020 to 1,652 cases in 2021. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship among environmental conditions and patient behavior with the incidence of pulmonary TB in Palembang City Method: Quantitative research method with the case of design control is used in this study. The sample of this study is taken by using random sampling. Determination of the location based on the public health center in the city of Palembang with the rate of pulmonary TB cases increasing starting from 2020 up to 2021. A sample of 122 cases consisted of a case group of 61 samples and a control group of 61 samples. Result: The results showed that, there was a significant result of relationship between the condition of the house (p-value= 0.000, OR = 11.744), sanitation (p-value= 0.028, OR = 7.778), smoking habits (p-value= 0.002, OR = 3.216) and removing phlegm carelessly (p-value = 0.000, OR = 3.862) with the incidence of pulmonary TB. The most dominant variable with the incidence of pulmonary TB is the condition of the house (OR=14,502, 95% CI: 5,314-39,575) Conclusion: The condition of the house is the dominant factor that affects the incidence of pulmonary TB in Palembang City. It is hoped every morning we must opened the doors and the windows, so the sunlight and air circulation can entered the house.
