Abstract
Today cryogenic cooling methods have been widely used. Among them, cryogenic cutting is one of the most frequently used methods. The choice of low-temperature cooling medium determines the cooling and lubrication performance. Currently, the cooling medium commonly used for cryogenic cutting is liquid carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 is a cooling medium that is cheap, safe, and environmentally friendly and can be easily used and stored. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of machining parameters on the cryogenic milling process on the surface roughness of AISI D2 high carbon steel using the method Surface Methodology Response. The main machining parameters such as cutting speed (Vc), feeding speed (Fz) are used as free variables. The variable tied to this study is the roughness parameter Ra. The empirical equations of the matimatics model for each surface roughness response are made in the form of code factors and variance analysis (ANOVA) is used to analyze the empirical equations of the mathematical model. From the equation of the mathematical model Ra it is found that the speed of feeding (Fz) has an effect greater than the cutting speed (Vc). The smaller the cutting speed, the roughness of the surface obtained will be rougher and vice versa, the smaller the feeding speed, the smoother the surface roughness obtained.
