Abstract
Background: The incidence of DM type 2 patients was progressively increased. WHO predicts rise in the number of patients from 8.4 million in 2000 to around 21.3 million in 2030. The other problem of irrational treatment has become a world problem where more than 50% of drugs prescribed is not correct. The aim ofthis studywas to determine the rationality ofthe use of oral antidiabetika in hospitalized patients at PertaminaHospital Plaju, Palembang. Method: This study is a descriptive research study of drug use from August 2010 to August 2011 at Pertamina Hospital Plaju Palembang. Population and study sample was taken from the medical records of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 who use Oral Antidiabetic from August 2010 until August 2011. Variable of research among others, the pattem of usage, dosage, frequency, route of administration, contraindications, interactions with other drugs, follow-up, type, effectiveness, and rationality of use. Result: Use of Oral Antidiabetic at Pertamina Hospital Plaju Palembang when viewed from the dosage, 100% apply appropriate dose. The result of frequency use of OAD is 100% including the appropriate frequency. In oral antidiabetic administration did not reveal any contraindication OAD as decreased liver and kidney function, as well as Cardiac Heart Failure. For the use of generic drugs and patent the results obtained for 55.3% use generics and 44.7% using patent medicine. Review from the interactions with other drugs known as the obtained results of 75.9% including a favorable outcome and 24.1%, including unfavorable effects. Finally in terms of the effectiveness of only 24% were shown to be effective in the treatment of OAD therapy in patients with diabetes type 2 in Pertamina Hospital Plaju, Palembang. Conclusion: If the terms of the administered dose of OAD, the frequency of OAD, OAD contraindication, or patent generic drugs are used, interactions with other classes of drugs can be said to be rational. But only in the effectiveness of OAD obtained results is not rational. Therefore, the authors hope the doctor and paramedic team at Pertamina Hospital Plaju Palembang improve the treatment of DM Type 2 patients by reviewing the treatment of patients of all aspects of treatment so that the treatment becomes effective.
