Abstract

Background: The most effective treatment for cataract is surgery. Several study found that astigmatism still a serious problem after cataract surgery. It was because the large incision of comea. The purpose in this study is to determine association between prevalence of astigmatism post cataract surgery with ECCE + IOL and Phacoemulsification + IOL. Methode: This study used analitic survey method with cross-sectional design which has been held in Medical Record of RSKMM on Palembang with 215 respondents. Data was analyzed in Chi-square test to determine the association between prevalence of astigmatism after cataract surgery with ECCE + IOL and Phacoemulsification + IOL and also logistic regression test on multivariat analysis. Result: Respondents of astigmatism after cataract surgery 86,0% and not astigmatism 14,0%. Respondents of astigmatism after cataract surgery in ECCE + IOL 88,5% and in Phacoemulsification + IOL 83,7%. There was no significant association between prevalence of astigmatism after cataract surgery with ECCE + IOL and Phacoemulsification + IOL ( p = 0,508). But, based on astigmatism type, there was a significant association ( p = 0,001). There was also a significant association prevalence of astigmatism after cataract surgery with doctor qualification (p = 0,0012). Conclusioo: No significant association between prevalence of astigmatism after cataract surgery with ECCE + IOL and Phacoemulsification + IOL.
