Abstract

Background. Thoracic trauma is a common occurrence in Indonesia, where it is associated with a high mortality and morbidity rate. Many patients with thoracic trauma die before being admitted to the hospital, as the incidence of thoracic trauma continues to rise. However, these complications of death can be avoided with prompt emergency care, an accurate diagnosis, and adequate treatment. This study's objective was to provide an overview of the demographics, care output, and length of stay of thoracic trauma patients hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2020–2021. Method. This descriptive observational study used secondary data from the medical records of thoracic trauma patients hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results. 78 thoracic trauma patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in 2020–2021 has a sociodemographic distribution characterized by a predominantly male population (91.3%) and patients aged 45 years or older (66.3%). Conclusion. Thoracic trauma patients hospitalized at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang hospital in 2020–2021 were predominantly male and aged 45 years
