Abstract

Background: Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (KNF) is a carcinoma that appears in the nasopharyngeal area, the area above the throat and behind the nose. According to the Global Burden Cancer (GLOBOCAN) data report in 2020, KNF in Indonesia is ranked fifth. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between the histopathological type of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the response to chemotherapy in KNF patients at ENT-HN Department ENT-KL RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Method: This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were taken using secondary data from the patient's medical record. Sampling in this study was taken with a total sampling technique, all samples were obtained and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: This study showed an association between the histopathological type of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the chemotherapeutic response expressed by p value = 0.022 (p<0.05). The incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (46.2%) is one of the most malignant tumors of the head and neck in the ENT-HN Department of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin with the highest age range at the age of 41-50 years (35.3%) and more regarding men (70.6%). The most histopathological type is undifferentiated carcinoma (58.8), patients are also more commonly found at the IVA stage (61.8%) and in patients who completed their one cycle chemotherapy, the most chemotherapy response is no change (70.6%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the histopathological relationship of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and chemotherapy response at ENT-HN Department RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Keywords: nasopharyngeal carcinoma, histopathological type, chemotherapy response, malignant tumors of the head and neck.
