Abstract

Backgrounds: Urinary stones are one of the most common diseases encountered in urological cases because of their recurrence. Many factors influence the formation of urinary stones, both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. By knowing the density and composition of the stones, management can be given appropriately so that recurrence can be prevented. This study aims to determine the density of urinary stones according to the Hounsfield Unit (HU) based on the stone compositions in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional study design. The sample of this study is the medical record data of patients with urinary stones in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2021 who met the inclusion criteria and had no exclusion criteria. Result: Out of the 55 samples, 61.8% of urinary stone patients were in the 45-54 year age category which were mostly found in male with a percentage of 58.2%, 18.2% had a family history of urinary stones, 25.5% had a history of urinary tract infection (UTI), and the location where stones were frequently formed was in the kidney (85.5%). Most of the stone composition is calcium oxalate (98,2%) with a density range of 118 – 1095 HU. Conclusion: Patients with urinary stones were dominated by male, 45-54 years age category, most of them had no family history of urinary stone and a history of UTI, and the most stone composition is calcium oxalate and the highest stone density range is a mixture of calcium oxalate, carbonate, and ammonium.
