Abstract

Background: Ocular trauma is a public health problem that can actually be prevented. It is one of the most causes of monocular morbidity and blindness in the world with an annual incidence of 55 million cases worldwide. Ocular trauma is often found in productive age, so the risk of hampered productivity and decreased quality of life must be avoided. Cases of eyelid trauma can occur in cases of emergency ocular trauma. This research has the intention to know the characteristics of eyelid disorders due to trauma in RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2019-2021 period. Methods: This research was a descriptive observational with cross-sectional design. The sample used in this research was the medical record of eyelid trauma patients in RSUP Dr. Mohammmad Hoesin Palembang in 2019-2021, which met the inclusion criteria. The data was then processed with the SPSS program. Results: 95.8% of patients were of productive age, 75% of patients were male, 33.3% of patients work as fishermen, laborers, drivers or housemaids, 87.5% of patients experience mechanical trauma, 66.7% of patients had a motor vehicle accident etiology, 45.8 % of patients had left eye laterality and 66.7% of patients had lower eyelid laterality with full-thickness characteristics (91.7%) and the most involved organs were the lid margins and lacrimal canaliculi, each of which is 62.5%. Conclusion: Most of the Eyelid trauma patients were of productive age, male, worked as fishermen, laborers, drivers or household helpers. Mechanical trauma dominates the types of trauma that occur with the most etiology of trauma being motor vehicle accidents. Lateral eyelid trauma were more common in the left eye and lower eyelid. The most characteristic eyelid disorders were full-thickness, involving the lid margins and the lacrimal canaliculi.
