Abstract

The use of a triage system for children in certain conditions such as emergency room (ER) requires the knowledge and experience of a health worker in children’s situations. This causes the need for an evaluation of the knowledge of health workers in carrying out triage. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of co-assistant students about triage in children which has never been done so far. This research is an observational descriptive study using a survey by collecting primary data through Google Forms. The level of knowledge about triage scores in children was measured using a questionnaire with 20 questions about related material. Data are analyzed using univariate analysis. This study sample is 210 medical professional students determined by stratified random sampling that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. The majority of respondents (65.7%) were women, (96.7%) have or are passing through the pediatric stage of professional education, and (80.5%) have also handled or seen emergency cases of children directly. Most of the respondents (96.7%) know the definition of triage, while only 97 respondents (46.2%) know the function of triage. The triage system for children that was most widely known by respondents sequentially is the recommendation of IDAI (72.4%), ESI (69%), Jump START (50.5%), and PTT (30.5%). The IDAI recommendation triage system at RSUP dr. Mohammad Husin is known by 128 respondents (61%). This study found that most of the respondents (50%) had a good level of knowledge of the triage score in children, 40% had an adequate level, and 10% had a poor level. This study concludes that the respondents have a good level of knowledge, but there are still deficiencies because only half of the respondents have a good level of knowledge. This study also concluded that the third level of the learning process had been carried out, namely application but with an understanding that was not valid and solid so that half of the respondents only had sufficient and less levels of knowledge.
