Abstract

Palm oil (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) is an export commodity that has important economic value in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia. The fact that can reduce the growth and production of oil palm is the presence of basal stem rot (BSR), this disease is caused by the fungus Ganoderma boninense, which can reduce production yields by up to 80% and cause heavy losses. One alternative that can be used is the use of Ginger rhizomes as an antifungi that can inhibit microbial growth. Objectives of this study 1). Knowing the efficacy in vitro of pure ginger extract and ginger extract formulations in suppressing the fungus G. boninense. 2). Knowing the effect of concentration, application time and interaction of ginger extract formulations in the treatment of early infections and advanced infection of stem rot in oil palm seedlings. Methodology This research is carried out in vitro and in planta in greenhouses and phytopathology laboratories. In vitro testing used a complete randomized design with four treatments and five tests. The treatment used was the concentration of pure ginger extract 1.25%, 2.5%, 5% and control as a comparison, while in the ginger extract formulation which was given a mixture of tannins using a concentration of 0.25%, 2.5%, hexaconazole fungicide 0.1% and control as a comparison. In planta testing used a randomized group design with four treatments and seven groups on early infection of oil palm seedlings and advanced infection using four treatments and five groups. The treatment used ginger extract formulation with a concentration of 0.25%, 2.5%, hexaconazole fungicide 0.1% and control. The results showed that pure ginger extract with a concentration of 5% caused colony inhibition of 83.7%. The formulation of ginger extract given tannins at a concentration of 2.5% caused a colony inhibition of 62.2%. In planta tests of early infections and advanced infections of 0.25 and 2.5% concentrations can reduce the intensity of disease attacks by 5-41%, which is smaller than the resistance in in vitro tests by 21-64%. Oil palm seedlings treated give better results on the growth of oil palm seedlings than fungicides and control. There are differences in the treatment of pure ginger extract with ginger extract formulations given tannins. In the in vitro test the best pure ginger extract in inhibiting the growth of G. boninense was at a concentration of 5% with an inhibition value of 83.7%. In planta tests of early infection and advanced infection showed that plant growth treated was 2.5% better at reducing disease severity, in contrast to hexaconazole control and fungicide of 0.1%. 0.1% hexaconazole fungicide was only able to inhibit the growth of G. boninense in in vitro assays.
