Abstract

Background. Colorectal cancer is one of the malignancies with the most cases in Indonesia caused by gene mutations. Genetic and environmental factors play a major role in the development of cancer. Ileus obstruction is the most common complication in cases of colorectal cancer patients. This study aims to determine the characteristics of colorectal cancer patients with ileus obstruction at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method. This research was classified as a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design using secondary data in the form of medical records of colorectal cancer patients with ileus obstruction at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from July 2020 – July 2022 using a purposive sampling technique. Results. In this study, there were 68 samples of colorectal cancer patients with ileus obstruction at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from July 2020 – July 2022 included. The age group that affected the most are the one in the age of 56 – 65 years (35,3%), most of the ileus obstruction patients are male (54,4%), most patients working as private sector employee (36,8%), the most common symptom is changes in bowel frequency (76,5%), patients with stage II cancer (42,6%), most patients have well-differentiated adenocarcinoma (38,2%), location of cancer in the rectum (48,5%), and no patients with a family history. Conclusion. This study shows that colorectal cancer patients with ileus obstruction at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from July 2020 – July 2022 are dominated by patients with the age group of 56 – 65 years, male gender, private employees, changes in bowel frequency, patients with stage II cancer, well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, and most cases happen in rectum.
