Abstract

Background: Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones are thin, brittle, porous and break easily due to reduced bone mass over a long period of time. The incidence of osteoporosis can pose a burden to the country's economy and increase the mortality rate. Knowledge of osteoporosis risk factors can assist in prevention and diagnosis, so that clinical and economic impacts can be avoided. This study aims to determine the assosiation between risk factors for osteoporosis and the incidence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: Analytical observational research with a cross sectional design approach. Data was taken by conducting a medical record search of postmenopausal female patients who underwent DXA examinations at the Graha Executive Installation of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the period July 2021-August 2022 and continued with patient interviews. Data were analyzed by Chi-square test if it met the requirements of Chi-square test or Fisher Exact test. Results: The study involved 68 respondents. There is a significant assosiation between the risk factors of age and physical exercise with the incidence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang (p-value=<0.001, p-value=0.023). Risk factors for parity, BMI, alcohol consumption, smoking habits and coffee consumption are not significantly related to the incidence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Conclusion: There is a significant assosiation between the risk factors of age and physical exercise with the incidence of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Keywords: Osteoporosis, Postmenopause, Women, Risk Factors
