Abstract

Background: Osteosarcoma is a malignant bone tumor with complaints of severe pain in bones and joints. Osteosarcoma is classified into primary and secondary osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma decrease human function both physiologically and psychologically so theres a limitation in carrying out activities. Researchers are interested in conducting research on the characteristics of osteosarcoma patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang 2019-2021. Methods: This research is an observational descriptive study with total sampling. The data is a secondary data from the medical records of osteosarcoma patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin 2019-2021. Then, the data were analyzed through univariate. Results: In this study, 41 osteosarcoma patients were found at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, which was dominated by the age group 0-24 years, 34 patients (82.9%), aged 25-59 years 6 patients (14.6%), and 1 patient (2.4%) aged >60 years. Osteosarcoma occurred in 22 patients (53.7%) in women and 19 patients (46.3%) in men in 25 patients (61%) distal femur, 8 patients (19.5%) proximal tibia, 4 patients proximal humerus (9.8%), and other locations 4 patients (9.8%). The treatment given was chemotherapy for 14 patients (34.1%), chemotherapy and amputation for 8 patients (19.5%), chemotherapy and limb salvage surgery for 8 patients (19.5%), amputation for 7 patients (17.1%), limb salvage surgery 2 patients (4.9%), chemotherapy and radiation therapy 2 patients (4.9%). Conclusion: Characteristics of osteosarcoma patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2019-2021 has an age distribution which is dominated by the age group 0-24 years of 34 patients. Osteosarcoma is most common in women with the most common location being the distal femur. The most common treatment given is chemotherapy. Keywords: Osteosarcoma, bone tumor
