Abstract

Introduction: Stunting or a child with short height for his age is defined if the child's height is > -2SD. Based on SSGI (Studi Status Gizi Indonesia), the stunting rate in 2019 was 27.7% and 24.4% in 2021. The stunting rate in Indonesia is still high when compared to WHO standards, which must be less than 20%. Perception is used as a foundation or prediction in behaving. Mother's perception of stunting will influence the behavior or actions that will be taken by the mother related to fulfilling the nutrition of children who are at risk of stunting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between mother’s Perceived susceptibility and perceived barriers with the incidence of stunting at the Puskesmas Taman Bacaan, Seberang Ulu II, Palembang. Methods: The research design was observational analytic with a cross-sectional study. There were 42 respondents, who were mothers and their children aged 6–59 months. The data obtained were in anthropometric examinations on children and filling out perception questionnaires by mothers. The data were then analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 27. Result: There is a relationship between Perceived susceptibility and the incidence of stunting (p = 0.029) and there is a relationship between perceived barriers and the incidence of stunting (p = 0.004). Conclusion: There is a relationship between Perceived susceptibility and the incidence of stunting (p = 0.029) and there is a relationship between perceived barriers and the incidence of stunting (p = 0.004). Keywords: stunting, perception, mother, children under five
