Abstract

Background: Traumatic brain injury (COT) is an injury that occurs as a result of a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating injury that results in damage to the brain. Traumatic brain injury itself ranks third as a global burden disease in 2020. This study aims to identify the characteristics of traumatic brain injury patients in Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This research is an observational descriptive study. The data used in this study were primary data of traumatic brain injury patients who were treated at the Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care Department at RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result and Conclusion: The results of this study found traumatic brain patients in Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang in 2018-2020 has the highest distribution in the 17-64 year old group (73.9%), male (80.4%), student / college student (28.3%), and last education secondary education (junior high/high school) (67.4%), not from referral health facilities (50%) with referral patients dominated from outside Palembang (34.85%), length of referral <24 hours (30.4%), and management prior to referral in the form of fluid therapy (43%). The most common causes were motorbike RTA (84.8%) and not wearing a helmet (60.9%), there were no patients in alcohol/drug intoxication (100%), GCS score <8 (69.6%), with multiple injury on the face (41.3%). More patients were treated operatively (67.4%) with a waiting time of <2 days (67.4%), diagnosed with CT-Scan Intracranial Hemorrhagic (ICH) (32.6%), with complications of increased intracranial pressure and brain edema (82, 6%), and the most common outcomes were death and mild disability (30.4%).
