Abstract

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a disorder acquired during fetal development that affects the heart and blood vessels structurally and functionally. CHD consists of cyanotic and acyanotic types. The principle of PJB management is to do it as early as possible, one of which is by operating procedures. This study aims to describe the characteristics of cyanotic and acyanotic CHD patients underwent heart surgery at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang between 2019-2021 period. This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were taken using the total sampling method of medical record data of CHD patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of the 39 study samples, there were more female patients (53.8%) and the age group 0–2 years (38.5%). Acyanotic CHD is dominating (71.8%). VSD and PDA were the most common diagnoses for acyanotic CHD (25.6%), while TOF was the only diagnosis for cyanotic CHD (28.2%). CHD can be caused by environmental and genetic risk factors. Murmurs were the most frequently reported symptom of cyanotic (100%) and acyanotic (85,7%) CHD patients. Majority of cyanotic CHD patients underwent total correction (90.9%) and acyanotic CHD underwent septal defect closure (64.3%). The most complications of cyanotic CHD patients were hypovolemic shock (18.2%) and acyanotic CHD were heart failure (42.9%). The majority of patients have a postoperative survival outcome. Cyanotic and acyanotic CHD patients who underwent heart surgery at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang between 2019–2021 period has characteristics that are in line with research at several hospitals and previous theories.
