Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus in children has higher disease activity and disease burden than SLE in adults. Clinical manifestations in SLE patients are highly variable, can have different combinations of symptoms and also tend to mimic other medical conditions. The features of early manifestations at disease onset of SLE are very important in early diagnosis and referral. In addition, several initial manifestations are uncommon and do not meet the diagnostic classification criteria, and diseases that mimic SLE also make it difficult to make an early diagnosis. This study aims to describe the initial manifestations in pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus patients before being diagnosed at Dr Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang 2019-2021. The research design used was descriptive observational with cross-sectional methods. The data used in this study is retrospective data. The research data were analyzed using the 26th edition of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software. In this study, there were 32 newly diagnosed pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus patients at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital for the 2019-2021 period, consisting of 31 female patients (96.9%) and one boy (3.1%), with an average age of 13.75 (SD ± 3.27256). The most common manifestations were skin manifestations (68.8%), constitutional manifestations (53.2%), atypical manifestations (53.2%), and haematological manifestations (46.9%). The time span of the most manifestations was <1 month (58.5%). Newly diagnosed pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus patients are dominated by the age group of 11-15 years, female sex. Cutaneous, constitutional, atypical, and constitutional manifestations make up the majority of the initial manifestations. The most common manifestations were found within <1 month.
