Abstract

Imperforate anus or often called anorectal malformation is a congenital condition of without anal opening or imperfect anal opening at birth. Worldwide, the incidence of anorectal malformations is estimated to be 1 in 2,000 to 5,000 live births. Anorectal malformations have serious complications if not treated properly and promptly. With the high incidence of anorectal malformations in children, this study was conducted to determine the characteristics of anorectal malformations in children who underwent surgery, especially at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. This study is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design using the total sampling method in the Medical Record Installation of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang with a sample of patients with anorectal malformations in children in the 2019-2021 period. From this study, the results of a total sample of 41 patients were obtained with the highest percentage occurring in male gender (73.2%), diagnosed at 0-7 days of age (97.6%), history of gestational age of ≥37 weeks (95,1%), age managed for more than 24 hours (65,9%), classification of anorectal malformation without fistula (73,3%), history of birth weight 2500-4000 grams (90.2%), without comorbidities (82.9%), colostomy management (80.5%), without complications (92.7%), treated in the ward (53.7%), final mortality (92.7%). Patients with anorectal malformations were mostly male, age of diagnosis 0-7 days, gestational age 37 weeks, age of management more than 24 hours, birth weight 2500-4000 grams, without comorbidities, treated with colostomy, admitted to the inpatient ward and many recovered.
