Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DMT2) is a progressive metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels. The main pharmacological therapy for T2DM consists of oral drugs and insulin. However, the use of insulin alone or self-adminstration insulin has a greater possibility of therapeutic errors than oral drugs because the patient's knowledge, trust, and adherence to insulin treatment regimens affect the achievement of therapeutic success. This study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) towards self-adminstration insulin in T2DM patients at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Methods: This is a observational study with cross-sectional design. Using the DKT-IS, ITAS, and MIAS questionnaires which were distributed to T2DM patients in outpatient installation of the internal medicine polyclinic endocrinology division of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang with total sampling technique for 2 weeks. Statistical analysis using chi-square test and binary logistic regression with SPSS. Results: The research sample is 50 people. Of the 50 respondents, 32 (64%) respondents used insulin and 18 (36%) respondents did not use insulin. 19 (38%) respondents had good knowledge (cut of point 72.225) and 31 (62%) respondents had bad knowledge. Positive attitudes (cut off point 48.50) was had by 26 (52%) respondents and 24 (48%) respondents had negative attitudes. Good behavior (cut off point 81.25) was had by 17 (34%) respondents and bad attitude by 33 (66%) respondents. Knowledge (PR: 1.594) and behavior (PR: 1.803) are risk factors for self-adminstration insulin errors, while attitude (PR: 0.462) is a protective factor for self-adminstration insulin errors. Of these three factors, knowledge (PR: 1,594) contributed most to self-adminstration insulin, although not statistically significant. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and practice towards self-adminstration insulin with knowledge being the most correlate factor although not statistically significant.
