Abstract

Background: Thrombocytopenia is a common problem in pediatric patients and transfusion of platelet concentrate from whole blood and apheresis is appropriate management. Evaluation after platelet transfusion can be seen with the Platelet Increment (PI) formula to assess the success of transfusion. Other factors that affect platelet transfusion are age, gender, diagnosis, number of bags and transfusion volume. This study was conducted to determine the effect of platelet concentrate transfusion type on transfusion success in pediatric patients. Methods:This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This study used secondary data from the medical records of pediatric patients who underwent concentrated platelet transfusion at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital for the period January 2020 - December 2021. The study sample amounted to 69 people consisting of 38 recipients of concentrated platelet transfusion from whole blood and 31 recipients of concentrated platelet transfusion from apheresis. Sampling was done by consecutive sampling. Data were analyzed using mann-whiteney and chi-square tests on SPSS Ver. 28.0.
