Abstract

Introuction: Nowdays, cardiovascular disease become number one cause of the death in the world. According to WHO in 2002, 16,7 million people around the globe die of cardiovascular diseases and 7,22 million deathsfrom coronary heart disease. Therefore research about prevalence of acute coronary syndrome in Internal Medicine Department of Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang in 2010 is needed. This research's purpose is to know the prevalence of acute corona,y syndrome and also to know the distribution of acute coronary syndrome patient based on gender, age, blood pressure, family history of coronary artery disease, lipid prqfile and diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study was a observational descriplive study with cross sectional design and supported by collecting the medical records (secondary data) during December 201I. Method of sampling was consecutive sampling. The data was analyzed with SPSS 18. Result: There were 157 cases of acute coronary syndrome in Internal Medicine Department of Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital Palembang during year 2010. The Prevalence of acute coronary syndrome in 2010 was 1,83%. The distribution of patients were men, >55 years in both men and women, normal blood pressure, didn't have family histo,y of coronary artery disease, normal total cholesterol, normal LDL, normal HDL, normal trigliserid, and with diabetes mellitus. Discussion: The prevalence of acute coronary syndrome in Internal Medicine Department of Mohammad Hoe.sin General Hospital Palembang in 2010 was 1,83%, it was quite small than other research. The factors which had been quite significant effected on acute coronary syndrome were gender, age and diabetes mel/itus. Therefore, a.further study about the relationship of those factors and the incidence of acute corona,y syndrome was needed.
