Abstract

One of the problems that occur in students is having a tendency to aggressive behavior. This study aims to determine the description of self-control, description of aggressive behavior tendencies, and the relationship between self-control and aggressive behavior tendencies of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang. This research is a quantitative correlational study with a sample of 161 samples from 270 populations determined by simple random sampling technique by lottery. The method of collecting data in this study was in the form of self-control scales and aggressive behavior tendency scales obtained through direct dissemination. The results of the data analysis showed that the level of self-control of the students was mostly in the medium category with a percentage of 41% (66 students), the level of aggressive behavior tendencies of the students were mostly in the very low category with a percentage of 36% (58 students). Then the correlation coefficient (r) = -0.445 and sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 or < 0.05, which means that there is a significant negative relationship between self-control and the tendency for aggressive behavior of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang. This means that the higher the self-control of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang, the lower the tendency for aggressive behavior. Conversely, the lower the self-control of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang, the higher the tendency for aggressive behavior. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for further research.
