Abstract

One of the diseases that most often attacks freshwater fish is Motile Aeromonas Septicemia. It caused by Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria. Peronema canescens is an original Indonesian plant that has potential as an antibacterial. The aims of this study was to determine the best concentration of Peronema canescens leaf extract in treating nile tilapia infected with bacteria A. hydrophila. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of a negative and positive control and three treatments with three replications each. The negative control treatment was nile tilapia infected and it didn’t soaked in the extract of Peronema canescens leaf. Positive control, nile tilapia infected and soaked in 50 mg L-1 oxytetracycline. P1, nile tilapia infected and soaked at a concentration of ½ MBC Peronema canescens leaf extract (0.83 g L-1). P2, nile tilapia infected and soaked at a concentration of 1 MBC Peronema canescens leaf extract (1.66 g L-1). P3, nile tilapia infected and soaked at a concentration of 1 MBC Peronema canescens leaf extract (3.33 g L-1). The results indicated that P2 treatment with a concentration of 1 MBC (1.66 g L-1) was the best treatment with a cure of 86.67% and survival rate of 86.67%. The rearing quality of water measured during the research was temperature 26.8-30.6 ºC, pH in the range of 6.0-7.7, dissolved oxygen in the range of 5.4-6.0 mg L-1, and ammonia range of 0.01-0.09 mg L-1. The quality of water measured during the study was still in a good range for nile tilapia.
