Abstract

Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria that cause variety of infections. There are many reports about resistance of Staphylococcus aureus to antibiotics, one of the most dangerous is Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain (MRSA). According to that reason, the aim of this study is to determine the sensitivity pattern of Staphylococcus aureus to antibiotics in Microbiology Laboratorium of FK Unsri/RSMH Palembang. Methods: This study is descriptive observational study, has been done in October 20I 3 to December 2013. Sources of data in this study is a secondary data of the result of Staphylococcus aureus sensitivity test to antibiotic that were taken from Clinical Microbiology Laboratorium of FK Unsri/RSMH Palembang period January 2013 to June 2013. Results: Total of Staphylococcus aureus were obtained from 25 clinical specimens is as much as 510 isolates. The most common Staphylococcus aureus isolates were obtained from pus, blood, urine, and sputum. From sensitivity test results of Staphylococcus aureus to 11 antibiotics, there were 45,5% resistant to antibiotics, 8,0% were intermediete and 46,5% were sensitive. Staphylococcus aureus has the highest level of antibiotic resistant to penicillin, that from 510 specimens, 364 specimens were resistant (71,4%) and the highest level of antibiotic sensitive to vancomycin that from 5 IO specimens, 497 specimens were sensitive (97,5%). Conclusion: Sensitivity pattern of Staphylococcus aureus to antibiotics show that this bacteria has the highest level of sensitivity to vancomycin, amikacin and imipenem. This bacteria has the highest level of resistence to penicillin, ampicillin and norfloxacin.
