Abstract

Background: Peptic ulcer disease is a damage of gastrointestinal tract mucosal caused by acid and pepsin secretion. Based on endoscopy test at Makassar in 2009, from 1615 chronic dyspepsia cases, 14% of these are duodenal ulcer, when duodenal with gastric ulcer only 5%. This disease mostly occur in 45-65 years old and gradually increases with age. Data of peptic ulcer disease in Sumaetra Selatan is very rare. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence of peptic ulcer disease at Gastroenterohepatology Subdivision of RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study was a descriptive observational study using cross-sectional approach. Populations of this research was all of 2340 patients at Gastroenterohepatology Subdivision of RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January-Desember 2012. Meanwhile samples of this research were peptic ulcer disease patients at Gastroenterohepatology Subdivision of RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang from January-December 2012, all of 195 cases became the samples of this research. Results: Prevalence of peptic ulcer disease reach 8,33%. Most patients were men and >64 years old. Melena was the most common chief complain, and most of ulcers found anatomically in duodenal. Conclusion: Based on this study, age and sex are risk factors of peptic ulcer disease. Beside, most of patients found with hemorrhage complication.
