Abstract

Ganoderma boninense is a fungal pathogen that causes stem rot disease. Heavy attacks due to this disease can affect the productivity of oil palm plants. Temulawak extract has great potential in inhibiting the growth of pathogenic fungi. Temulawak extract is reported to have antifungal ability against pathogenic fungi. The purpose of this research is to: 1). to determine the in vitro efficacy of temulawak extract formulations in suppressing the fungus Ganoderma boninense. 2. To determine the effect of concentration, time of application and interaction with temulawak extract formulations in the treatment of early infection of base rot disease in oil palm seedlings. 3. Determine the effect of the concentration of temulawak extract formulation in the treatment of advanced infection of base rot disease in oil palm seedlings. An in vitro test using pure temulawak extract was shown to inhibit the growth of the fungus G. boninense. Treatment of pure temulawak extract at a concentration of 5.00% and formulation of temulawak extract at a concentration of 2.50% proved to suppress the growth of G. boninense fungus colonies. The emphasis on growth speed in MEA pure extract treatment reached 87.47%, in MEA given curcuma extract formulation the emphasis reached 33%. Treatment of pure extract and temulawak extract formulation on MEA affected the growth of the Ganoderma boninense mycelium. Ganoderma boninense hyphae that were given the treatment grew abnormally compared to the control treatment. This abnormal hyphal growth cannot be detected using pH and EC tests. Concentration, time of application and formulation had little effect in treating early infection and late infection of stem rot disease in oil palm seedlings. The best treatment for suppressing the development of stem rot disease was the formulation of temulawak extract with a concentration of 2.5% and application time every month.
