Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bentuk tekanan sosial yang dialami kaum waria di kota Palembang dan untuk memahami upaya kaum waria dalam menghadapi tekanan sosial di kota Palembang. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis permasalahan penelitian ini adalah teori Labeling dari Howard S. Becker, yang menjelaskan bahwa penyimpangan dihasilkan sebagai akibat yang ditimbulkan oleh pengaruh reaksi orang lain. Dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwa bentuk tekanan sosial pada kaum waria yakni pelabelan negatif, diskriminasi pekerjaan, penolakan dan kekerasan fisik dan diusir dari rumah. Upaya kaum waria dalam menghadapi tekanan sosial yaitu berinteraksi dan menjaga sikap, lari dari rumah dan mengembangkan keterampilan.
