Abstract

Pregnancy is one of the natural cycle of the female reproductive life, which is a condition in which the occurrence of fertilization or the union of sperm and ovum, followed by implantation. Pregnancy is a risk factor for gingival inflammation and have relationship with the prevalence of gingival inflammation. Measurements using the Papilla Bleeding Index is used as an initial evaluation to determine the diagnosis of gingivitis. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship with the occurrence of pregnancy gingivitis. This type ofresearch is a survey of analytic crosssectional approach. The study was conducted in Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Sample of this research was 100 respondents, divided into four groups, the nonpregnant, first trimester pregnancy, second trimester pregnancy and third trimester pregnancy. Data that were taken was the status of gingival bleeding, using the papilla bleeding index by Saxer and Muhlemann. Data were analyzed by using One Way ANOVA test followed by post hoc test (p <0.05). Based on research, results was found that F value > F table (0,270). That results show the influence of gestational age with the occurrence of gingivitis with a significance value of p <0.05. The conclusions that was found from this study was there is a relationship between third trimester of pregnancy and the occurrence ofgingivitis.
