Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda is a South and North American invasive pest that has spread and entered the Asian continent. The spread is rapid and poses a threat to food security, particularly maize. Pest control using endophytic entomopathogenic fungi is the best way to control S. frugiperda, and endophytic fungi also have a positive impact on plant growth. This control has not been applied widely. Therefore, this research aimed to observed the effect of endophytic entomopathogenic fungal inoculation against mortality, S. frugiperda development, and the impact on maize growth. The methodologies used were RBD (Randomized Block Design) and CRD (Completely Randomized Design), which were then replicated three times with 1 control and 8 isolates (TaAIPA, MSwTp1, BkBTp, BSwTd4, LtKrLH, TaLmME, TaPsBA, MSwTp3, and TaPsBA). The variables were the impact of feeding fungus-treated maize leaves on S. frugiperda development and the impact on the growth of maize seedlings. The result showed that the endophytic entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana (BSwTd4), with an LT50 of 19.94 days and an LT95 of 30.71 days, caused the highest mortality, 61.33%. Infected larvae with the display symptoms like drying, rigidity, and the growth of fungus mycelia. The study's findings indicate that the eight isolates can kill S. frugiperda larvae, with the BSwTd4 isolate, B. bassiana species showing the highest mortality rate of 61.33%. and can accelerate maize seedling growth.
