Abstract

Pengobatan diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang menggunakan metformin ternyata menimbulkan efek samping berupa xerostomia dan penurunan jumlah bakteri-bakteri baik yang terdapat di saluran pencernaan. Efek samping ini memicu peningkatan proliferasi dari Candida albicans yang menyebabkan timbulnya kandidiasis oral. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara lamanya penggunaan metformin sebagai antidiabetika oral dengan timbulnya kandidiasis oral pada pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 2. Penelitian cross sectional telah dilaksanakan di Bagian Rekam Medis dan Instalasi Rawat Inap RSMH Palembang pada tanggal 27 April - 4 Mei 2011. Sampel penelitian ini beijumlah 270 sampel yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang beijumlah 59 sampel dan kelompok bukan diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang beijumlah 211 sampel. Masing-masing kelompok dilakukan wawancara dan pemeriksaan intraoral untuk melihat ada atau tidaknya kandidiasis oral. Dari penelitian ini, didapatlah hasil bahwa frekuensi timbulnya kandidiasis oral pada sampel yang menggunakan metformin adalah 6,29% ( p< 0,05). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara lamanya penggunaan metformin sebagai antidiabetika oral pada pasien diabetes mellitus tipe 2 dengan timbulnya kandidiasis oral.
