Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of plants, parts of plants, uses and methods of making handicraft products and household appliances by the Penesak Tribe in Tanjung Batu Ogan Ilir District. The method used in this research is descriptive method. Data collection was carried out by means of semi-structural interviews, observation and documentation of the informants' activities, namely the types and parts of plants used as well as the handicraft products and household appliances produced. Based on the results of the interviews, it was found that 20 types of plants were used as materials for making handicrafts and household appliances which produced 30 types of products. The most widely used plants belong to the Poaceae family as many as 4 plant species, namely Lepironia articulata Retz., Bambusa vulgaris Schrad. ex J.C., Gigantochloa atroviolacea Widjaja, Phyllostachys bambusoides Siebold & Zucc. The most widely used part of the plant is the stem. It is hoped that the data from this research can be used as a source of information for high school students in class X in studying the subject matter of Plantae Basic Competency 3.7 Applying classification principles to classify plants into divisio based on observations of plant morphology and metagenesis and linking their role in the continuity of life on earth.
