Abstract

This study aims to describe the numeracy ability of grade VIII students in learning cartesian coordinates with the PMRI approach in the context of Light Rail Transit (LRT) Palembang at SMP Negeri 59 Palembang. This research method is qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were class VIII.4 students of SMP Negeri 59 Palembang. Data collection techniques using observation, tests, and student interviews. The test consists of two questions to measure students' numeracy ability. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion of indicators of numeracy ability, 80.95% of students use various numbers and symbols related to mathematics in various contexts of daily life, 54,24% of students can analyze information presented in various forms (graphs, tables, and others), and 70.24% of students were able to combine analysis results to predict and make decisions. The results of this study were that class VIII.4 students of SMP Negeri 59 Palembang had good numeracy ability in solving test questions using the PMRI approach in the context of Light Rail Transit (LRT) Palembang in cartesian coordinates.
