Abstract

The research objective was to determine the role of envy on psychological well-being in female Instagram users. The hypothesis of this study was there is a role of envy on psychological well-being. The participants of this study were 385 female Instagram users aged 18-24 years. The sampling was purposive sampling. The psychological well-being variable was measured using a scale created by researcher based on the psychological well-being dimensions of Ryff and Singer (1996). Meanwhile, the envy variable was measured using a scale that was also created by researcher based on the core features of envy according to Smith, Parrott, Diener, Hoyle, and Kim (1999). Data analysis was performed using simple regression techniques. The result of data analysis shows that the significance value is 0.000 (p <0.05), so there is a role of envy towards psychological well-being. The R square value in this study is 0,410. That is, the role of envy towards psychological well-being in female Instagram users is 41%.
