Abstract

This study aims to find out and obtain the right dose of magnesium origin kieserite for the growth and yield of oil palm plants. The research was carried out at the Oil Palm Research Plantation (-3013'16.8", 104038'25.8"), Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. Research was from February to June 2022. The study used the method of Randomized Block Design (RBD) which consisted 4 replications with 6 treatments doses of Mg, so that there were 24 experimental units. Nutrient source of magnesium comes from kieserite (26% Mg). The treatment consisted of : (P0) Control (Without Mg); (P1) 312 g Mg / plant (1,2 kg kieserite); (P2) 624 g Mg / plant (2,4 kg kieserite); (P3) 936 g Mg / plant (3,6 kg kieserite); (P4) 1.248 g Mg / plant (4,8 kg kieserite); (P5) 1.560 g Mg / plant (6 kg kieserite). The result showed that the application of Mg can increase soil pH range 0,11 to 0,22. Base of ANOVA there were no significant effect for number of spear leaves, the number of male flower bunches, the number of sengkleh midribs and fruit bunch weight, except for female flower bunches. The dose of Mg 1.248 g / plant (4,8 kg kieserite / plant) gave well effect on the growth and yield of oil palm on dry land.
