Abstract

Lightweight concrete atau beton ringan adalah beton yang memiliki massa jenis lebih ringan daripada beton pada umumnya. Pada umumnya berat dari beton ringan itu berkisar antara 600-1600 kg/m3, dengan memiliki kuat tekan 1 hingga lebih dari 60 Mpa. Lightweight concrete dapat dibuat dengan berbagai cara, seperti penambahan foam dan menggunakan agregat ringan.. Penggunaan foam dan expanded polystyrene dalam beton dapat mengurangi berat jenis beton secara siginifikan. Komposisi dari lightweight concrete terdiri atas portland composite cement, expanded polystyrene, air dan foam. Perbandingan komposisi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 1 : 2,75 untuk semen dan agregat, 1 : 40 untuk foaming agent dan air, serta perbandingan w/c sebesar 0,485. Ukuran expanded polystyrene yang digunakan adalah ukuran 3mm. Perawatan beton dilakukan dengan cara menyelimuti beton dengan karung goni yang telah dibasahi air selama 7 dan 28 hari. Hasil pengujian beton pada umur 28 hari memberikan data kuat tekan rata-rata sebesar 4,08 MPa, serta data berat jenis rata-rata sebesar 742 kg/m3. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada pengujian sifat fisik dan mekanik lightweight expanded polystyrene concrete dengan penambahan serat polypropylene mesh fiber.
