Abstract

Introduction: Decreased body function can occur due to increasing age, decreased body function can occur in all systems in the body, one of which is the musculoskeletal system. Decreased bone function is characterized by pain in the joints. Joint pain can affect the quality of life of the elderly, including impaired functional activity. The impact that occurs on pain when it occurs repeatedly can result in a stress response which includes increased anxiety, excessive heart rate, increased blood pressure, and increased respiratory frequency. Given the impact of pain on the elderly, additional treatment is needed besides giving pharmacological therapy. Companion therapy that can be given is warm compress therapy. Purpose: Able to provide gerontic nursing care to elderly people with joint pain by handling it using warm compress therapy. Method: The method used in writing scientific papers is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach on three elderly people with joint pain problems. Result: Based on the results of the study, it was obtained data from the three managed patients who had the same nursing problem, namely acute pain. Based on the review of the journal, the intervention given to managed patients is warm compresses for 3 consecutive days with a duration of 15 minutes each time. The results of the intervention showed a decrease in the pain scale in the three managed cases. Conclusions: Warm compresses are proven to reduce pain scale in the three elderly.
