Abstract
Kekerasan pada baja dipengaruhi oleh karbon yang terkandung didalamnya, namun kekerasan dapat ditingkatkan maupun diturunkan dengan perlakuan panas yang sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh perlakuan panas pack carburizing, quenching dan double quenching terhadap kekerasan baja st 40. Pada proses pack carburizing spesimen dipanaskan dengan suhu 850oC dan holding time 60 menit dan pada proses quenching dan double quenching spesimen dipanaskan dengan suhu 850oC dengan holding time 30 menit. Dari hasil pengujian kekerasan dengan metode vickers diperoleh kekerasan raw material sebesar 267,183 kgf/mm2. Spesimen hasil pack carburizing dengan media karbon arang batok kelapa (80%) dan natrium karbonat (20%) diperoleh kekerasan sebesar 323,246 kgf/mm2. Spesimen hasil quenching oli 4 tak diperoleh hasil kekerasan sebesar 562,969 kgf/mm2. Spesimen double quenching dengan media pendingin air diperoleh kekerasan sebesar 587,081 kgf/mm2. Spesimen hasil double quenching dengan media pendingin larutan garam diperoleh hasil kekerasan sebesar 588,105 kgf/mm2. Double quenching pendingin larutan garam mendapatkan tingkat kekerasan tertinggi dari semua spesimen pengujian.
