Abstract

Background: Stunting in children is caused by low nutritional intake in the first 1,000 days of life, from fetus to baby aged two years. The incidence of stunting is never separated from the intake of macronutrients such as energy, protein, and fat. One of the prevention of stunting that can be done since infancy is exclusive breastfeeding for six months then followed by MPASI. A study showed a decrease in serum iron levels in children who were stunted compared to children who were not stunted. Methods: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Fe levels in breast milk and Hemoglobin (Hb) levels in infants in Mestong District in 2022. This research is a quantitative analytical study, and was carried out in March-April 2022. The study was conducted in Muaro Jambi Regency in the region The work of the Tempino Health Center and Pondok Table Health Center in Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency. Results: The results of this study showed that the majority of Fe levels in breast milk were in the low category of 86.9% and the majority of infants' Hb levels were in the normal category (11 g dL) of 73.8%. There is no relationship between parity (1,000), education (0.182), occupation (1,000), economic status (0.614) and Fe levels in breast milk (0.073) with Hemoglobin (Hb) levels in infants in Mestong District in 2022. While there is a relationship between age with Hemoglobin (Hb) levels in infants with p value = 0.030 and age is the dominant factor that affects infants' Hb levels. Conclusion: There is a need for policies and strategies for health programs to prevent stunting from an early age in breastfeeding infants by analyzing other variables such as specific and sensitive nutrition interventions.
