Abstract

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) provides space and rights to life for all components of ecological biota without causing damage to cultivated plants. The problems faced by farmers related to pests and diseases in Banyuasin and OKU Timur are mainly faced by food crop and horticulture farmers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the compliance of food crop and horticulture farmers in implementing IPM that is environmentally friendly and safe. The hypothesis in this study is: (1) It is suspected that food and horticultural crop farmers have complied in implementing IPM properly. (2) It is suspected that the IPM implementation score is closely related to the types of pests and diseases and the intensity of their attacks in the field. The benefit of this research is to add insight to people regarding the control of pests and plant diseases and to be able to provide information about the application of pest and disease control based on the plants being cultivated by farmers in Banyuasin and Ogan Komering Ulu Timur areas. The study was carried out in different fields of food and horticulture farmers in Banyuasin and Ogan Komering Ulu regions. This research was conducted from May to November 2022. The research used survey method in the form of interviews with farmers using a questionnaire as reference, followed by field observations on the land owned by the farmers who were interviewed. Sampling Method Using the Method (Purposive Sampling). Observation of Pests and Diseases in Plants is done directly in the field. Then determine the disease score in each sample plant. The observation parameter in this study is the farmer's behavior towards the decision-making process in the use of pesticides. Intensity of pests and diseases, percentage of disease attack were analyzed descriptively in the form of tables and graphs, and correlation analysis. The highest number of diversity in both pests and diseases of horticultural and food plants based on all the observed land area was found in land size of 0.25 ha which is a size that is often found in farmers' fields, in crop cultivation and the percentage of farmer age in Banyuasin and OKU East has an average aged 40 to 50 and also for farmer education in Banyuasin and OKU Timur which has an average education at the junior high school level with a total of 24 farmers. For the percentage and intensity of both horticultural and food crop in Banyuasin are classified as good because few farmers get a score of 2 or 1. Culturaltechniques applied by the farmers were land preparation, land sanitation, selection of resistant varieties, setting spacing, irrigation, crop rotation, intercropping, use of mulch, utilization of natural enemies and weeding.
