Abstract
This study examines the socio-economic changes in the community after the construction of the Sumatra Institute of Technology in Way Huwi Village which has an impact on social and economic changes, socially there are changes in interactions, mindsets, and attitudes of the people, and economically there is the creation of new jobs and business fields that are utilized by the local community. The research method uses descriptive qualitative research. The research strategy uses case studies, a total of 10 informants consisting of 7 main informants, 1 key informant and 2 supporting informants. Data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of this study explain the social changes that occur in social conditions that the people of Way Huwi village before the construction of the community campus had enthusiasm in terms of social interaction among fellow citizens which resulted in a culture of mutual cooperation maintaining order, cleanliness or high solidarity, but with the existence of the ITERA Campus people have a new culture such as having a desire to earn more income, tend to be individualistic, the growth of education has the effect of caring for education and morals. The impact of development also raises negative sides such as a high crime rate which is marked by the rise of incidents of theft, then behavior in juvenile delinquency such as speeding, wild racing, drinking. There are economic changes that have occurred in the Way Huwi village community, namely changes in the livelihood aspects of work diversification such as photocopying services, laundry services, food stalls, renting boarding houses, hairdressing services and cafes. The phenomenon of changing livelihoods has resulted in people's incomes that have increased their income. Keywords: Social Change, Economic Change, Development
