Abstract

Currently Indonesia is experiencing an energy crisis due to ever-increasing needs. The increase in energy consumption in Indonesia is caused by industrial growth, the number of household electronic goods produced and technological advances. Indonesia has considerable potential, especially in wind energy sources that are converted into electrical energy. The large wind potential is harnessed using environmentally friendly wind turbines. The Savonius wind turbine and the Darrieus wind turbine are characteristics of turbines that are suitable for the available wind. In this research, the Savonius turbine is combined with the Darrieus turbine to determine the wind turbine speed produced if the turbine arm is replaced with a load. The research method used is the determination of the dimensions and the number of turbine blades used and the manufacture of wind turbines which begins with the selection of turbine blade raw materials, the selection of turbine frames, turbine shafts and pulleys. The Darriieus blade material used is wood and the Savonius blade is made of PVC pipe. The results of this study are the recommended chord length for the Darrieus rotor blades which are long 5 cm. The torque value produced is different for each turbine according to the blade height and wind speed which varies in the wind tunnel resulting in a minimum and maximum torque range.
