Abstract
Caisim (Brassica chinensis) contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, Ca, P, Fe, vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C which are good for health. Apart buying from the market, one of the efforts to keep vegetable needs is by cultivating vegetables independently at home. Caisim requires a lot of water intake, so that suitable planting media is a planting media that is able to hold water well such as compost and wood biochar. Apart from compost and wood biochar, ultisols also have the potential to be used as a constituent of planting media because ultisols have a texture that is expected to help plants stand upright. The characteristics of compost, wood biochar and ultisol expected to support each other to be an ideal planting media are the basis for this research to be carried out. The design used in this study was a RAL design with 5 different compositions of planting media. Each type of planting media was repeated 4 times so that there were 20 experimental units. The composition of the growing media tested in this study included M1 (50% ultisol + 50% wood biochar); M2 (50% ultisol + 37.5% wood biochar + 12.5% compost); M3 (50% ultisol + 25% wood biochar + 25% compost); M4 (50% ultisol + 12.5% wood biochar + 37.5% compost); M5 (50% ultisol + 50% compost). The research data were then tested statistically using ANOVA level 5% and further tested using BNT 5%. The results showed that the composition of planting media had a significant effect on N-Total, P-availabbe, K-dd and fresh weight of caisim. Keywords: Caisim, Compost, Planting Media, Ultisol and Wood Biochar.
