Abstract

HESTI, Evaluation of the Implementation of Integrated Plant Pest and Disease Control by Food Crop Farmers in South Sumatra (Supervised by BAMBANG GUNAWAN) Food plants are plants that can produce the main needs for humans, namely carbohydrates and proteins. In Indonesia, the most widely cultivated food crops are rice and corn because they are the staple food for Indonesian people. One of the causes of decreased food production and decreased quality of production produced in several areas is the presence of pests and diseases. In controlling pest and disease attacks, farmers often use them as the main alternative in controlling pest and disease attacks by using synthetic chemical pesticides. The use of pesticides is quite effective in controlling pests and diseases. However, the use of these pesticides has many impacts that are not good for health and the environment. One of the safe controls for health and the environment is integrated control (IPM). So based on this description, this research was conducted to determine the evaluation of integrated pest and disease control in food crop farmers. This research was conducted in 3 districts namely Ogan Ilir Regency, OKU Timur Regency, and Muara Enim Regency. The time of implementation of this research was carried out from May to December 2022. This research was carried out by conducting interviews with respondent farmers. The method used in this study was purposive sampling, namely selecting research locations and respondent farmers according to the criteria, namely food farmers and a minimum land area 300². The results found that the IPM implementation score obtained by food farmers was 63%, meaning that the IPM implementation was in the sufficient category. It was also found that the correlation (r) between the IPM score on the pest population was only 0.21, meaning that the correlation between the 2 variables was very weak, and the coefficient of determination of the effect of IPM on pest populations was only 4.41%. Meanwhile, the result of the correlation between the IPM score and the percentage of pests is only 0.09, meaning that the correlation between the 2 variables is very weak because the value obtained is less than 0.25, and the coefficient of determination of the effect of IPM on the percentage of diseases in food crops is only 0.81% The remaining is determined by other factors. The implementation of IPM for food farmers in 3 research locations is sufficient but not perfect.
