Abstract

Base stem rot (BSR) caused by Ganoderma boninense is an important disease that attacks oil palm. G. boninense does not only attack old plants, but also young plants or seedlings. BSR is a disease that is very difficult to control and causes enormous losses to plantations. The use of secondary metabolites of biological agents and natural ingredients such as Trichoderma spp., Beauveria bassiana, and rhizome plant extracts which have antifungal potential in controlling BSR disease. This study aims to determine the efficacy of suppressing the fungus G. boninense and basal stem rot disease in oil palm using a formulation containing Trichoderma spp., B. bassiana, extracts of ginger, temulawak, and turmeric as well as the interaction between the concentration of the formulation used and the time application. This research was conducted from January to December 2022 at the Phytopathology and Greenhouse Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study consisted of 3 trials: the first experiment was in vitro, an experiment on early infected oil palm seedlings, and an experiment on late infected oil palm seedlings. The in vitro experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Experiments on early infected oil palm seedlings used a 2×3 completely randomized factorial design (RALF) with separate control treatments, where the factors used were the concentration factor and the application time factor. Experiments on oil palm seedlings with advanced infection used a randomized block design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The results of this study indicate that the TrBbJaTmKu formulation is antifungal which inhibits the growth of G. boninense. Administration of the TrBbJaTmKu formulation to oil palm seedlings with early infection or late infection did not significantly reduce the severity of the disease but increased the growth of the oil palm seedlings.
