Abstract

This study discusses about "Social Capital in Fishermen Groups in the Utilization of Fishery Resources in Sungsang II Village, Banyuasin Regency". The purpose of this study is to describe the components of social capital that exist in Fishermen Groups in Sungsang II Village which include trust, social institutions and social networks and to identify and analyze the role of social capital in fishermen groups in utilizing sustainable fisheries resources in Sungsang II Village, Banyuasin District . The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive research method, while the number of informants in this study were 10 (ten) people selected purposively. Data collection techniques are carried out by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. This study uses social capital theory from Putnam. The results of this study found that the components of social capital formed in fishermen groups in Sungsang II Village included 3 (three) parameters, namely: Trust, Institutions and Social Networks. Social capital in fishermen groups inutilizing sustainable fisheries resources can be seen from the use of their fishing gear. The existence of a ban on the use of fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly has made the fishermen's group in Sungsang II Village comply with this regulation. This is supported by the existence of a social capital component that is formed in fishermen groups in Sungsang II Village. Keywords: Social Capital, Fishermen Group, Fisheries Resources
