Abstract
MERI AGUSTIN, Evaluation of the Implementation of Integrated Pest and Disease Control by Food Crop and Horticultural Crop Farmers, Based on Farmer Education in South Sumatra (Guided by Dr. Ir. SUPARMAN, SHK) In an effort to save the products of plantation and agricultural commodities from pest attacks, farmers often use pesticides. This behavior is due to farmers' lack of knowledge about the negative impacts of chemical pesticides. In addition, farmers' lack of knowledge about integrated pest management (IPM). The implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) by farmers is very low. Many things have caused the low level of application of IPM, one of which is the low level of farmer education which causes the inactivity of farmer groups and village government officials towards the development of agricultural technology. There is a fairly close relationship between the level of receipt of IPM information and the level of education of farmers. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on the evaluation of the implementation of integrated pest and disease control based on the background of farmer education. The method carried out in this study is in the form of a qualitative method by conducting interviews with farmers. The data taken is in the form of primary data obtained through interviews with farmers in South Sumatra with a minimum education in elementary school (SD). Other data obtained are in the form of symptoms of pest attacks and diseases that exist in plants that are observed directly in the field. The data processed is a calculation of the percentage and intensity of pest and disease attacks, PHT scores, PHT implementation rates, and the correlation of PHT scores to pest populations and disease attacks. The number of respondents taken was the last education farmer of high school, junior high school, and elementary school each 20 respondents. The percentage and intensity of pest and disease attacks obtained on farmers' fields with the last education of high school, junior high school, and elementary school have insignificant differences. The results of the correlation test between the IPM score and the pest population showed a negative correlation with an r value of -0.074 and an influence of 0.005%, while the correlation test results between the IPM score with disease attacks showed a positive correlation with an r value of -0.082 and an influence of 0.006%. The level of implementation of the last education farmer's layoffs was 62%, junior high school 64% and elementary school 61%. There was a negative correlation relationship between the IPM score and the pest population with an influence of 0.005%, while there was a positive correlation relationship between the IPM score and disease attacks with an influence of 0.006%. The latest educational background of high school, junior high, and elementary school farmers does not affect the level of IPM implementation, as evidenced by the higher level of implementation of junior high school layoffs (64%) than high schools (62%) Keyword : Correlation, education, implementation, IPM, management
